Fatah Names Hussein al-Sheikh as New Deputy Leader

(MENAFN) The Central Committee of the Palestinian movement Fatah has elected Hussein al-Sheikh as its new deputy leader, according to a spokesperson for the group.

The decision was made during the first session of the newly formed Central Committee following internal elections held last month as part of the movement’s Eighth General Conference.

According to reports, senior Fatah figure Mahmoud al-Aloul previously held the position of deputy head since 2017, making him the first to occupy the role. With the latest vote, al-Sheikh becomes only the second individual to assume the post.

Fatah recently completed internal leadership elections, selecting members for both its Central Committee and Revolutionary Council. The Central Committee serves as the movement’s highest decision-making body, while the Revolutionary Council functions as a supervisory and legislative structure overseeing policy direction.

Reports indicate that the latest conference also reaffirmed Mahmoud Abbas as head of the movement and its general commander. Several prominent figures were elected to leadership positions, including individuals linked to senior political families.

The internal restructuring reflects ongoing organizational changes within Fatah following its latest conference, which was held in Ramallah and marked one of the movement’s key leadership renewal processes in recent years.
